QTCareHouse QTBIPOC+ Community Care Fund

Dear Community,

With great gratitude, QTCareHouse is excited to be planning a QTBIPOC Community Care Weekend August 23rd and 24th. We’re centering QTBIPOC organizers and practitioners to bring folks together for a weekend of Community nourishment, healing and connection. We’re talking bodywork, acupuncture, herbalist consultations and medicines, music, food, and more. We all know that the State and the powers that be have been ramping up their attacks on Trans people, on Queer people, and on Black and Brown people. And our intention for this event is to strengthen our own webs of Connection and Care, to center joy and play, and for folks to feel held in the space and to leave feeling Good.

We’ve secured some funding for the event, which will be Free to attend, and in order to fully realize our vision, we’re reaching out to our extended Community for additional financial support. Can you help us? We’re looking to raise $1650 *or more* to be used for:

-renting the venue ($300)

-compensating QTBIPOC food vendors ($600)

-paying 6 additional practitioners ($750)

-misc material costs ($100)

Our organizer core consists of Trans and Queer folks who believe that holistic care is vital care, and it is firmly within our values to keep our events free and accessible to attend. The work of our Collective is fully supported through crowdfunding and grants, and we are not 501c3 affiliated. In this moment, when our elected officials are determined to further dismantle the healthcare, social services, and other systems of support that had already been failing many folks in our Community, it is especially important for the larger organism, for communities of allies and those who love us, to fill in the gaps - so that We can continue to light the way for one another and for the rest of yall too!

Past Community Care Events have been held at the Andre Cailloux Center, CrescentCare on Elysian Fields, The Marigny Opera House, the Allways Lounge, and the John Thompson Legacy Center. We’ve collaborated with Home is Here, the Institute for Women and Ethnic Studies, CrescentCare’s STI Prevention Team, and the Creating Change LGBTQ+ Conference held in New Orleans January 2024. We’ve connected 1000+ Trans and Queer people in New Orleans with holistic and vital care services, and we’ve created opportunities for Trans and Queer practitioners to provide care to people in our own Community without financial barriers.
