I'm Kelly I am trying to help raise money for my parents. My dad has been in the hospital since September 1st 2022 here's how he got there.
Years ago dad was told he had an Aneurysm, the doctors monitored it for years. Dad was told in 2020 that there was a possibility he has prostate cancer. Then covid hit and the world closed. So last year 2021 dad had an accident and broke his hip. While they did scans they seen his Aneurysm had got larger. After his hip healed, in September 2021 he went in for Aneurysm surgery in Indiana. He had to have another surgery in November 2021 due to a leak from the first surgery. During the second surgery they were unable to fix the aneurysm due to the fact it started leaking else where and didn't have a stint the right size to fix it so they closed him up. Shortly after the second Aneurysm surgery he ended up in the hospital right before Christmas and was having issues with his bladder completely emptying. Dad ended up coming home on the 21st with a Catheter. Was home maybe 5 min and had to call the ambulance to come get him because he had passed out due to a blood clot in his leg. The Aneurysm doctor said he needed to go in again. My mom said no at that time and said she was taking him to Ann Arbor. So on September 1st 2022 dad went in for his 3rd surgery on his Aneurysm. After the 12 hour surgery the surgeon came out and talked to mom and said what all he did which was the equivalent of 5 major surgeries because they had to re-route all his arteries to his organs due to the screw up from the 1st and 2nd surgeries. September 2nd they relized he had no pulse in his foot due to no blood flow in his leg so they went in to find a kink in his graft so he fixed it. On the 3rd he had to go back in for surgery for no oxygen to his organs. They went in and found he had a dead gallbladder and part of his colon was dead. At this time they had to bag his colon because he was to swollen from all the fluids they were giving him. On the 7th they went back in found more dead colon and it had leaked. Also he had dead stomach tissue. They went in again on the 9th to wash him thinking they would not be able to close him up yet. It was supposed take and hour and it took 3 hours. They were able to start his colostomy bag. Said they had to put in a mesh to be able to close him up. He was put on dialysis until his kidneys started to produce more urine and to help relieve some of his swelling. He also ended up with blood clots in 3 of his finger tips which are still black today and unsure if he will lose the tips. He spent 38 days in the ICU and mom stayed days at the hospital with him and nights at a hotel while he was in ICU. He was transferes by ambulance to St. Joseph in Ypsilanti on October 7th. 3 weeks ago he went to Indiana by ambulance for 3 days to rehab. After 3 days he went back to Ann Arbor by ambulance because his liver numbers were not good and he was jaundice. A week later he went back to rehab by ambulance for 4 days. The rehab place had not given him his liver meds for 4 days because they cost over $1000 a month. With good rx they were able to get it a lot cheaper at Meijer. So he ended up back in the hospital last week where we found out he has pneumonia and he has a fungus growing in his liver. The docs put him on an anti fungi med and found that it was interfering with his liver meds so they have stopped the anti fungi med but continued the liver meds. He has an appointment in March with the liver doctor to see if he is a good candidate for a liver transplant doc said he would have problems with his liver the rest of his life. He is still currently in the rehab center bed ridden.
With numerous trips to Ann Arbor (which is a 2 hour drive for mom) for up coming doctor appointment, hotel stays, gas and food it is costing them a small fortune. With many more trips to come.
