The Du Bois Orchestra at Harvard believes that everyone deserves a seat at the classical music table. Together we can create an inaugural performance that shares the transformative power of classical music with over 150 people!
The Du Bois Orchestra is a new dynamic chamber orchestra dedicated to promoting social inclusion and community outreach through classical music. We believe that engaging with issues of equity and access within the music world can best be grappled through live performance. Comprised of students and faculty from Harvard, New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, Longy School of Music, and Berklee School of Music, the Du Bois Orchestra creates a space for collaborative excellence in music.
In the spirit of social inclusion and outreach, the Du Bois Orchestra is hosting 40 students from New York City from the Sistema-based music education programs, Opportunity Music Project (OMP) and Washington Heights and Inwood Project (WHIN). Our orchestra is creating a memorable and exciting day long Harvard experience for the OMP, WHIN, and UpBeat families, including a campus tour, arts engagement activities, community meals with the orchestra, and an opportunity to perform side-by-side with the Du Bois Orchestra! Our goal is to show that Harvard, with its immense historical privilege, is a place for everyone to flourish personally and artistically.
The funds from this campaign will go towards meals for the OMP and WHIN families, as well as the rental and transportation of percussion instruments for the concert. We also would like to compensate the devoted volunteer educators who are giving their time and energy to create and execute such exciting arts engagement activities for these deserving students and families.
Thank you for donating to our cause and making your voice heard in the dialogue on social impact through classical music! We invite you to join us on Saturday, April 30th at 8 p.m. at the University Lutheran Church in Harvard Square to experience the artistic zeal of the Du Bois Orchestra at Harvard.
