On Wednesday, April 15th, my daughter Maddison was bitten by the neighbor's dog so badly, she needed to be airlifted to the children's hospital of Philadelphia. While an absolutely terrifying experience we were surrounded by a wonderful medical team and supported by our loved ones amid days of uncertainty as they assessed and addressed the damage caused by the attack.
We are home now, Maddy is healing well and is in good spirits. But because of the severity of the damage caused by the attack we will now need to go back to Philadelphia twice a week for follow up procedures for an undetermined amount of time.
As we look at the next couple of months it's clear we need help to navigate this uncertain but hopeful future. The hospital in Philadelphia is a little over 70 miles away from where we live, which means we will need to drive almost 150 miles twice a week. In its current state, my car cannot handle that amount of travel, so we will need extra funds to handle repairs -which at this point is looking to be about $1,500, future maintenance, and gas.
Constant travel also means a lot of extra (easy) meals will be needed for our family. Any extra funds will help to cover food costs as we make these trips.
There are extra expenses to cover necessary medical supplies as we support Maddy's healing. While insurance covers some any extra funds would help us cover any unexpected medical costs.
If you are able to financially support Maddy and our family we would appreciate it more than you can imagine. Any bit will help ease this unexpected financial strain and allow us to focus our energies on her healing. If you are unable to donate anything please just keep Maddy in your prayers and send good thoughts our way!
*UPDATE*
Maddison's first follow up in Philly is on the 28th! Wish us luck!
