Medical Fund for Jess Wallace

I met Jess in 2012 and I instantly could tell what a wonderful person she is! She always goes out of her way to help anyone and everyone she possibly can and she always does it with the most contagious smile on the planet! Jess is the most caring, thoughtful, giving, genuine and loyal person I have ever met. If anyone is deserving of some support from others it is her and her family. This page is set up to help Jess and her husband, Tyler, with the financial burdens that have manifested from a very complicated and risky pregnancy. As scary, risky and expensive as this pregnancy was/is, it will all be worth it when a miraculous little boy named Henry Flynn Wallace is born.

In 2004, when Jess was only 16 years old, doctors told her that it would be nearly impossible for her to ever have children. She was diagnosed with endometriosis and poly cystic ovarian syndrome. As she got older and her issues seemed to get worse Jess was positive that she would never be able to have children of her own. From the time she was 17 until 2014 Jess struggled with her diagnosis and had to undergo painful surgeries to remove scar tissue and cysts. Always in the back of her mind knowing that no matter how much she wanted children of her own, the chances of it actually happening were almost non-existent.

Jess met and fell in love with her wonderful husband Tyler in 2009 and they were married in 2011. Tyler was aware of Jess’s condition and was very supportive. The two of them decided that they wanted to have children together and at that point they thought that their only option was to adopt. They were not quite ready to start a family just yet so they set that on the back burner while they enjoyed each other for a couple of years.

In 2014 Jess and Tyler decided that they were ready to add to the Wallace clan. They wanted to make 100% sure that Jess would not be able to have children on her own before they looked into the process of adoption. They met with a doctor that believed that if they could do one more surgery on Jess to remove scar tissue and cysts that it would give Jess and Tyler about 12 months of hope. The doctor explained that in this 12 month window there was a chance that Jess could get pregnant and carry a child. This news was both exciting and scary for Jess and Tyler. The thought of having their own baby was almost too good to be true. They talked about it for a while and decided that this was their one chance and they were going to take it!

After 8 months of trying to get pregnant with no success Jess and Tyler were beginning to fear that maybe this dream of having a baby was too good to be true. But, in October of 2015, Jess found out she was pregnant and all doubts and fear melted away as they began to think of her future as a mommy. The fear came back rather quickly though when Jess learned that not only was her pregnancy high risk, but it also had some unusual complications.

Almost immediately Jess began bleeding very heavily off and on and there were a few times when doctors feared she may be losing the baby. They could not find the reason for her bleeding but baby Wallace was hanging in there and so was Jess! She was in and out of the hospital 4 times throughout the pregnancy! At 7 weeks Jess was put on bedrest for two weeks in hopes that this would reduce the bleeding and risk of losing the baby. This happened again during her 11th week of pregnancy. Jess was also put on progesterone to try and thicken her cervix to prevent miscarriage.

Just when they thought that things were starting to calm down Jess and Tyler were given some scary news. The doctors had discovered that the progesterone was not able to help Jess’s cervix and it was less than 1cm when it needed to be around 3-4cm. To help with her thinning cervix, at 17 weeks, Jess had to have surgery in which she was given a Cerclage to help keep her cervix from thinning any more. But, to make matters worse, doctors also discovered that Jess’s placenta was a complete Previa. This meant that her placenta was covering her already shortened cervix. This poses great risk to mom and baby. Doctors explained that every week from there on out was a blessing. They were going to try and hold off an emergency C-section until baby Wallace was healthy enough to survive on his own outside the womb. This was all so much for Jess and Tyler to take in but they held out hope that Jess would be able to carry their son as long as she needed to.

On Monday March 30th, at 27 weeks, Jess starting bleeding very heavily again and was admitted to the hospital. She was told that all of the blood was from the placenta Previa and not from the baby and the doctors told her that was better. But, they were concerned that she was going to bleed out again and they were afraid that she could actually hemorrhage and die within minutes. After a scary couple of hours, the doctors were able to control her bleeding but explained that she would have to stay in the hospital on bedrest until it was time to deliver baby Wallace. The doctor explained that they wanted to wait as long as possible to help the baby develop in the womb as much as possible. This means that Jess could be in the hospital from 1 week to a whole month! Not only is this going to be a tough couple of weeks emotionally for Jess and Tyler, but Jess is not going to be able to work so it will also be hard financially. On top of that they will be getting charged for every day that Jess is in the hospital and whatever her insurance won’t cover will be coming out of their pockets. This will just be added to their already mounting medical bills from Jess’s previous stays in the hospital and her surgery.

Once Henry Flynn Wallace is born they are expecting him to have to stay in the NICU for a while which will again cost another large amount of money. Jess’s maternity leave, short term disability and annual time, which have already been cut short because of her previous bedrest, will be long gone way before she should have to return to work. This means that Jess will have to take unpaid leave from work.

My hope in creating this page is that we can all come together to help this precious, well deserving family in their time of need. I want Jess and Tyler to be able to focus on their newborn son, their family and on Jess's own recovery and not have to stress about astronomical medical bills. This should be a fun, exciting and blessed time for them espcially because their son is a miracle!!!
