As a educator every year I like to start the summer by giving in some way to a cause that is important. Last year I organized a meditation event at the Philadelphia Art Museum to take a stand against gun violence. Through this event I was able to raise money to donate to a local non-profit that helps victims of families who've experienced a homicide. As a mom myself, I've experienced just reading the same book to my three year old and I'm sure other moms are going through the same with their little ones. I am fortunate enough to still have employment through Covid 19 but some families are not as fortunate. Some families are adjusting to having little to no income and buying a book for their child might not be a necessity right now. However, our children are also suffering from not being able to be with friends or continue in school with their education.
I would like to do a small part to bring joy to a child, the gift of reading. This book is not only sure to engage a child with the beautiful illustrations, the message of the book is one you've all probably wanted to hear as a child. The message of the book encourages children to travel, to discover what the world has to offer but to recognize ultimately what will make them happy lies deep within.
On the first day of summer which is 30 days away help me in gifting 100 children with a new reading book, Grey's Treasure Box written by me inspired by my own son.
Lastly, one of the most awesome things about this book is the lead character is of brown decent. Less than 2% of all children's book has a lead brown protagonist. We need to get more books into he hands of brown children that can identify with and see themselves.
Thank you for your support and donation. The cost of each book is 15$. I would need a donation of 1,500.00 to be able to give away 100 books. Once I receive the donations I will be donating the books to families that live in shelters here in Philadelphia. If you donate and would like some books donated to a family shelter near you or in your city please just leave that in the comment section. I can split the books so we can spread some reading love around.
