Hi Community,

Telling our stories are always hard, especially when it comes to asking for what you need for your own survival. I am coming to you all today because I am in need of immense support, even though I am holding so much embarrassment from saying it. 

Three months ago, a quit my job here in NYC because I was dealing with immense anti-blackness from my bosses and felt exploited and disrespected everyday. It became depressing and hard for me to even get work done, and their antics became even more treacherous day after day, wherein which it became hard to get out of bed in the mornings. As a Black trans woman, we are always contemplating the feasibility of quitting exploitative jobs because it will be extreme difficulty landing the next one based on a political economy that has consistently shut us out of its workforce.  So, even with having the privilege of holding a bachelors and a masters degree, I am still being denied positions and have been struggling these past three months. I’ve been interviewing back to back and not landing anything, and it has become exhaustive and depressing.

I am coming to you asking for donations based on your own capacity — whether it’s $2 or $10 — to help keep me afloat while I continue the job search process. It will be extremely helpful, as this money is going towards my rent, groceries, and transportation. I am currently interviewing for a variety of salaried based and part-time positions in NYC, and have a couple of prospective opportunities, but I won’t hear back until April 2020. I also would be greatly appreciative of job recommendations for some great non-profits hiring in the city.
