Just over 3 weeks ago, my friend Emma, was diagnosed with leukaemia. Within a few hours of discovering her diagnosis, Emma began chemotherapy and was transferred to a specialist cancer unit in London.
As you can imagine, being Emma’s close friend, I am in shock and disbelief, not only for her but also for her family. Emma and her husband Joe have an 11 month old daughter Everleigh, who is currently being looked after by grandparents when Joe is with Emma.
Emma was on maternity leave and due to return back to work just a few weeks after her diagnosis and unfortunately will not receive any sick pay from her employer. Her husband Joe has a supportive employer and has been travelling backwards and forwards to London every day. We hate to ask for financial contributions, but the cost of travel every day, the cost of buying a wig, their dog having to stay in kennels for a while, plus Emma not having any wages and not knowing when she will be able to return to work again is putting a financial strain on them, when they have enough to worry about.
Any amount would be greatly appreciated and would alleviate some of the stress they are experiencing.
