Patrick went into sudden cardiac arrest earlier this week.  He was clinically dead when paramedics arrived. This isn't the first bout with serious heart trouble for Patrick,  but no one expected that after years of struggling with Congestive Heart Failure and the conditions that later led to implantation of a heart pump, and finally, a heart transplant, that he'd be facing death again.  Last week, as he was nearing his one year wedding anniversary and celebrating the 3 week birthday of his newborn daughter, Grace, Patrick's chapter in life as a husband and new father almost ended.
Having struggled for the last 10 years with a mountain of residual medical debt from his experimental heart pump implantation and subsequent heart transplant, the medical debt from this bout of sudden cardiac arrest is an unexpected financial burden and setback.  
Patrick has never once complained, nor filed for bankruptcy.  He has, with his chin up, fought to keep his finances in order while struggling to pay back the insurmountable stack of bills - all with the utmost gratitude to be alive and appreciation for the medical staff that had cared so well for him.  He and his entire family are also utterly grateful to the paramedics who played an instrumental role in saving his life last week. 
The most uplifting gift Patrick could receive at this point, in addition to this miraculous second chance to continue his life as a husband to his beautiful wife and father to his newborn daughter, is the financial assistance to alleviate some of the burden this whole new set of medical bills brings.  Patrick's current care at the hospital will continue for an approximate 3 weeks and may include surgery to implant a defibrillator prior to his release.
