Support James on His Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
I'm writing on behalf of my son, James Grundy.
I've had many friends ask if I had or would start a GoFundMe account for my boy to help him through this trial in life.
In advance, I (we) thank you all for your support, love, & especially all of your wonderful prayers.
James is being treated for Guillain-Barré syndrome, a very complicated case at that.
Not remembering his own passwords or different things - numbers, some letters - talking is hard to understand and complicated.
James will need a lot of PT therapy to get him up and moving & even sitting up on his own along with speech therapy.
Because he’s unable to move.
So it all began back on the 10th of September when I called my son to check up on how he was doing.
James has been fighting MS along with other trials in life.
He also recently had a dramatic incident where he lost his best and wonderful loving service dog, Athena, of 13 years. She was a very big part of his life.
James is a hard worker. He was a full-time employee working as a supervisor at Costco, such a great company & treated him like family!!
Truly blessed to have a company that loves James and is so wonderful. Costco has truly outshined! Sheri has been such a lifesaver in helping me with all his financial issues.
Also, he was going to Weber State full-time getting his MBA. James is an “A” student - we couldn’t be more proud ..& supporting his family of 3 beautiful children.
With that, James has forgotten a lot along with his speech and movement.
When I called my son on the 10th, James had been complaining of a headache and towards the end of our conversation, I noticed he started babbling something and making no sense.
The following day, Felix called him and mentioned he didn’t sound like himself and wasn’t making sense once again.
On the 14th of September, James drove himself to work, surprisingly making it safely there. He had a co-worker watching him and noticed him standing in front of his locker looking confused & wasn’t making sense with conversation. His coworker called 911 immediately and James was taken by ambulance to Ogden Regional. They took a few tests and the CT scan came out okay. The hospital was going to release him that evening.
Felix called Carlyle Grundy to run over to be with his son James. I can’t thank Carlyle enough for being there when he did!! He stopped everything and drove all the way from Logan to Ogden in no time flat. They would have released our son James without anyone there to help him out. Carlyle fought to keep him there and thank goodness they did!!
James has been through 3 MRIs (in which he was in the last test for 3 hours - James had a panic attack. He was clearly upset and couldn’t calm down for hours after), 2 spinal taps (lumbar punctures), and lots of blood tests over and over He has had high fevers, a fast heart rate, and high blood pressure. The doctors were saying James is a difficult case/patient and has a long recovery.
Meanwhile, with my supportive loving husband at home in Arizona bought me another flight to Utah immediately on the 14th from Arizona to be there for my son James.
When we were notified that James will be transferred to another hospital, we tried so hard to move him to the U of U, but then they moved him after 6 days over to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah with neurologists on site (that was a headache in itself).
I have been here by my son's side - it’s now going on 23 days today, Sunday.
He will be having surgery tomorrow, Monday the 7th, to get a PEG tube placed.
We are truly thankful for all your prayers and for helping our family during this difficult time. Your donation is greatly appreciated. I honestly can't say thank you enough and for all the visitors that have come to visit James and spent hours being by my side & especially there for our son James.
Thank you in advance and God bless

James improvement is very little - his speech has really improved so that's a plus. Yay!!
He mentioned his arms are more numb then usual and can no longer place above his head.
He still on a feeding tube - since he lost so much weight and needs to stay at a stable weight.
James still needs a lot of help in moving himself from here to there.
Jess who works & also family (such a giving lovely, young lady) at the facility where he is at was able to get him into an automatic wheelchair - so once James is placed into this wonderful roundabout machine he is able to ride around and keep himself busy ☺️
Thank you Jess!!! You are truly remarkable!!
