Every Breath Counts for Marlon

To Everyone who has known Marlon Manohar and to All his new Friends: I am Mary Ann and I am Marlon’s sister. I am reaching out to you to share my story of my brother. Our lives will never be the same again as I will describe the vibrant and healthy Marlon from being healthy to being on life support. Healthy lungs are very important in life.
My brother, Marlon is critically ill in the hospital. Your support is appreciated to help cover treatment, rehabilitation and associated care during his hospital stay and recovery. Just prior to Thanksgiving, on November 20, 2017, Marlon was admitted to the Prince William Medical Center located at Manassas, Virginia for respiratory difficulties and it was determined that he had bronchitis and a severe case of pneumonia. Over the following four (4) days, his condition worsened and he was transferred to Inova Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Virginia. Both his lungs collapsed and he continues to be on a ventilator. His Oxygen has been very unstable and it was determined that he needed to be on life support which included a Ventilator and an Oxygen machine called ECMO. He was then put in an induced coma to allow his lungs to rest and recover. He was in an induced coma for almost three (3) weeks. Occasionally, he opens his eyes but his condition remains very critical. The entire medical team at both hospitals have been extremely compassionate and caring towards Marlon and my family. He continues to receive the best care and the Medical Team of awesome doctors have regularly explained his condition to us.
I am so very grateful to all the medical staff (Nurses and Doctors) for exploring all the possibilities of the underlying cause of Marlon’s condition. The Doctors are trying to figure out the reason as to why he is having serious respiratory issues whereby his lungs are unable to function on their own. They tried to wean him off the ECMO and he does not respond well and is still very unstable due to insufficient Oxygen. He is struggling to breathe on his own and his condition has not improved over the past four (4) weeks. He was intubated and now on a trach and still unable to speak. We are very saddened and deeply troubled to see my vibrant brother so very sick. Our Mom is here by his bedside on a regular basis. She is frail and in shock and cannot understand how sick her son is. She feels helpless and prays for a miracle to make him well again. She is very thankful to all for the kind words and prayers.
Marlon is a wonderful person and is well loved by all his family and friends. He enjoys being around everyone and knows how to put a smile on your face. He was always the life of a party, helping everyone and genuinely caring for others. He enjoys camping with friends, and spending time with his niece and nephew. We miss seeing him happy and talking to him. My brother has a passion for landscaping and has touched the lives of many people near and afar. We are hopeful for the smallest progress in his ability to breathe independently again and get well. Life is precious and God is watching over him and we all pray for him to be able to breathe on his own and smile again.
Please share with your friends and family and help me spread this message to All. I am setting up this GoFundMe for my brother who is critically ill and on life support in the hospital. Your support is very much appreciated. Follow the link to donate. Many thanks to All. MaryAnn.
