Life Changing Surgery for Taha

Donation protected
My son Taha has cerebral palsy (CP), type spastic quadriplegic, GMFCS Level III. Taha and his twin sister were born prematurely in Syria. Taha was diagnosed with this disease at 5 months of age and has been receiving treatment, therapy, and other interventions since that time in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and now Canada. My family immigrated here in 2016 to provide our children with a better life and to give Taha the best chance at a full and happy life.

We love living in Canada and we have worked as hard to establish ourselves as much as we can. My wife currently stays at home to be able to care for both of our children, and provide them both with the support they need. I am currently working part-time and studying full-time to build a professional practice here in Canada. I must attend all of Taha's appointments as I speak fluent English, but my wife is still learning.

We have recently seen a concerning decline in Taha's ability to walk and move around independently and an increase in his pain levels. Based on his age and his growth, we fear that the situation might continue to worsen if we do not do something soon.

After months of research, we have discovered that there is a surgery in the United States that is well researched and proven to be very successful in other young people with CP whose situation similar to Taha. The surgery is called  SPML (Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening) and is not offered in Canada, it is offered only in the US. The closest location being New Jersey. It costs 21,050.00 USD  and we will need to travel and stay in New Jersey for four days. Once we return Taha will need intensive physiotherapy for two months.

Taha is a kind, gentle and smart kid. He is intuitive, a natural caregiver and very generous.  He loves going to school and is adored by his classmates and the staff at his school. Taha shows so much potential to have a rich, independent and successful life with the right support. We have completed the initial consultations about this surgery and the specialists believe that this surgery would benefit Taha in life-changing ways. It will not only improve his immediate situation, it will give him a better prognosis for the future.

We must take this leap and give Taha the change to benefit from this surgery. He is excited at the prospect of improved quality of life and we want him to have that.

We will struggle greatly with this financially, but Taha deserves this chance at a better life. We would be eternally grateful for any support you could provide our family if you can.  We are eternally grateful for your support.

With gratitude,

Mohamad, Roula, Riwa, and Taha.
