Coach, Mentor, and Cancer

I can’t say that I’m much of an ‘anybody’ when it comes to Thom Harrison. I wasn’t one of his beloved athletes or scholars. I’m not close family, or even distant family... (even though he did spend a thanksgiving with my family and I a few years back.) But I do care for this person. He has been a dear friend of my family beginning when my brother was in Wrestling, at FWHBS. Thom has coached many with a firm fist of discipline and a warm sense of humor at the finish line. He was at every wrestling match, ready to bring down the roof, if the ref called a bad shot, or pump his team up with assurance and encouragement, that they are good enough.
I think GoFundMe explains this situation best, "Cancer can be a heavy economic burden for patients and their families. Hospital bills, lost wages, and other expenses can add up quickly, even for patients with good insurance coverage.
Being that radiation will only give Thom a 20% chance of survival, he has chosen to live his last few weeks/months in peace and solitude.
I’m sure no one expects that at 55 your life is close to ending. What do you say? What gift can you give? What last moments do you choose to be your last?
Coach Thom has mentored many students and peers of the community to be the best people they can be, and now is our time to give back, not only to him but his family.
It doesn’t take much to make a difference in easing this for the Harrisons. Your donations will go directly to Thom Harrison and his son, Gabriel. He is a brave 21 year old that has been a pillar of strength through their time of hardship.
Gabriel will have many expensesalone, considering he lives and works in Colorado, traveling back and forth will be a major yet necessary financial burden.
With the words of Winston Churchill, ““We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
Thank you all for your time and support.
