Our Journey to Parenthood

Hi, we’re Emily and Micaela.

We’ve been together since 2013, and in 2023 we tied the knot, surrounded by our loved ones. We both work in emergency services — a job that shows us every day just how precious and fragile life truly is - and has just added to our desire of having a family of our own.

Starting in January 2025, we began our IVF journey, full of excitement and hope. We were lucky to have a successful egg collection, and most fertilised. We were over the moon to be able to freeze three embryos after a fresh transfer. Sadly, following this, our first two transfers were unsuccessful, and with them went all of our savings.

Medically, everything suggests we should be able to get pregnant — our bodies are ready — but for reasons we don’t yet understand, they just haven’t wanted to stick. Those who know us know how deeply we want this, and how much these two failed attempts have taken a toll on us emotionally. This journey is one of the hardest things we’ve ever faced, but our hope has never wavered. We want this more than anything in the world, and we believe with all our hearts that this next transfer could be the one.

We put off asking for help for a long time — asking for help, especially financial help, is never easy and we wanted to try to manage on our own. But we’ve realised that you have to be in it to win it, and for us, that means giving ourselves the best possible chance at becoming parents. We do still have some savings to put towards this next round, so we’re only asking for help to cover the remaining amount we need.

Becoming parents has always been our dream. Micaela’s parents already have two beautiful grandchildren, but wish for a grandchild from us. Emily’s parents — with Emily being an only child — wish deeply for the chance to welcome a grandchild of their own.

Our parents have generously supported us where they can and we are forever grateful. But now, we find ourselves turning to our wider family and friends for help. We know IVF is never a guarantee, but we have every hope that our third attempt will bring us the miracle we’ve been dreaming of.

We don’t ask lightly — but we believe in our dream. Any contribution, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer to holding our baby in our arms.
