Jerry’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Please help Jerry Ryan! He works for Alpha and Omega as a member of the custodial team serving Wittenberg University.  Jerry had open heart bypass surgery on 1-18-19 and is expected to be off work for 8-12 weeks.

I have known Jerry for 5 years and he is never shy about telling his story. Jerry was homeless in 1995 after a string of bad luck with car repairs.  He was unable to pay rent and lost his apartment.  He spent the next 8 years living in his car and sofa hopping with various friends. He worked through the temporary agency in Springfield and worked small jobs, always attempting to find full-time employment.  Finally, in 2005, he was hired by a commercial cleaning company contracted by Wittenberg.  Jerry continued to work as a custodian and eventually saved enough money to buy a house!  He is now a proud home owner! However, due to this unexpected surgery and the time it will take to recover, Jerry is at risk of losing his home because he will be off work without pay.

Jerry is proud of his story.   He wants to take care of his heart, then return to work.  Please help me in supporting a local Springfield resident with a strong work ethic and a genuine need!
