West Highland Way for Homelessness
Hello hello hello!!
With the company and moral support of some fellow colleagues, on 28th September 2020, I will be embarking upon the West Highland Way, aiming to complete all 96 miles of it in just 6 days to raise money for the Glasgow Night Shelter.
As many of you will know, I have been involved with the Glasgow Night Shelter for the past year or so, first as a volunteer and now as a member of the staff team. Glasgow Night Shelter is currently the only organisation in Scotland providing emergency accommodation to destitute asylum seekers. We provide emergency accommodation 365 days a year for those asylum seekers who have been forced into destitution due to their immigration status: they have no right to work, no recourse to public funds (e.g. benefits), and no access to statutory homelessness services.
I am hoping to raise some money for the rainy (or sunny!) day fund at the shelter to pay for activities and days out for our guests, who otherwise have no means of doing such things.
With access to many free community activities etc being limited due to Covid-19, it is especially important that we can enable our guests to get out, to keep busy and just to enjoy life as much possible, in a particularly isolating time.
On our activities board at the shelter, we invited our guests to write down things that they would like to do which included ...
-A trip to Loch Lomond
-A trip to the beach
-Going bowling
-Gorge walking (for the adventurous!)
Please chip in what you can to make these trips possible!!! I know just how grateful our guests will be to have the opportunity to do something a bit special and to explore the country they now call home.
Thankyou so much on behalf of staff and guests at GNS !
Peace and lurve xxx
