#WalkfortheWorld
Donation protected
Social & ecological injustices are deeply interconnected. In this #WalkfortheWorld, we are collecting donations to support conflict & crisis survivors who are often forced to flee their homes due to war and other humanitarian crises ánd to help avoid & deal with natural disasters like forest fires, droughts and floods. We are all seeing the heartbreaking scenes in Afghanistan as an example of such suffering.
You can sponsor this #WalkfortheWorld by donating here until half September. After that your money will be equally donated to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Stichting Vluchteling and the Red Cross.
* Maria Kottari aims to run 15 km between 10-15th of September.
* Martine van Erkel aims to walk 40 km between 4th and 12th of September.
* Giorgia Silvestri aims to walk/run 40+ km between 4th and 8th of September.
* Paula Brites aims to walk 30 km between 2th and 12th of September.
* Mohinish Shukla aims to walk/run 40 km between August 31st and September 4th.
* Rachel Greer aims to walk, run and/or skate 40+ km between August 31st and September 4th.
* Flor Avelino aims to walk/run 100km km between August 31st and September 15th. Besides collecting money for the three NGOs mentioned above, she's also collecting for the Greenpeace campaign #RunfortheForest to help avoid & deal with forest fires: https://forest.greenpeace.nl/fundraisers/floravelino/run-for-the-forest-public
More information about the three organisations that the money will be donated to:
- UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR): “More than 80 million people have been forced to flee war, conflicts and persecution around the world”: https://www.unhcr.org/
- Stichting Vluchteling: https://www.vluchteling.nl/
- Red Cross: “Afghanistan is in crisis and there is huge humanitarian need. A combination of disasters - drought and floods, disease (particularly Covid-19) and conflict, have led to widespread displacement across Afghanistan” https://www.redcross.org.uk/about-us/what-we-do/international/afghanistan
Of course there are many more organisations to donate to, from Amnesty to many others including local and self-organised crowdfunding campaigns focused on specific causes like the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. We have also donated to those and encourage you to do the same!
