In the early hours of Saturday 29th May 2021, my sister, Denise, 24, became one of the latest victims of the increasing violent assaults against women in London in an unprovoked attack.

Not every assault makes it to the news, but that doesn’t make it any less important. Denise recently recovered from an ongoing foot problem, as well as finally starting a new career after a wretched 12 months of being in and out of work due to the impacts of lockdown. She currently has critical damage to her lips and teeth, after her head was smacked on concrete multiples times in Barnet, North London by a male stranger who was under the influence of alcohol and other possible unknown substances, in addition to mild blood loss which if was more severe could have led to hemorrhagic shock.

Being a mother to a 3-year-old son, combined with a need for a teeth bonding to repair a tooth chip which has taken away 25% of her enamel, with less than a month till her 25th birthday, she has been left psychologically traumatised by the incident, unable to have much contact with her son considering her reduced mental and physical state.

“Justice for Denise” has been created to make a firm stand by sending out a national message for women who need more social, mental, and financial support to help them during their psychological recovery, from the trauma of unprovoked assaults which affects their everyday life routine, as well as their families.

The majority of funds raised will finance Denise’s teeth bonding, as well as covering the expected loss of income while she recovers over the next few months.
