Lisa DeWees’ Cancer Treatment & Recovery Fund

On April 29, my sister, Lisa Miracle DeWees, heard the words that changed our family forever. Lisa is the one in eight women who receive a breast cancer diagnosis. She has Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) that accounts for 10-15% of all breast cancer diagnoses. TNBC is more aggressive, harder to treat and more likely to recur.

 

Lisa’s oncologist specializes in TNBC and has established an aggressive treatment plan. Lisa will begin 24 weeks of chemotherapy the first week of June, receiving one treatment every three weeks. She will have a double mastectomy at the end of the year, followed by 27 weeks of immunotherapy, one treatment every three weeks. Radiation will most likely follow.

 

Lisa and her husband Rich are in for a long, hard fight but they know that they don’t fight alone. They are blessed with faith and an incredible support system of family and friends. For over 33 years, they poured into others while they served in full-time ministry. Now is our opportunity to come together and pour into them.

 

The financial burden is going to be crippling. All of Lisa’s tests and consultations in April/May have been billed as self-pay while she waits for insurance to start June 1. The new insurance carries a high deductible. Lisa will also be out of work as she focuses on the fight. She won’t be eligible for hardship assistance from the hospital until she and Rich have spent a considerable sum out of pocket.

 

This GoFundMe page has been created as a way for friends and family to support Lisa and Rich during this difficult time. It will allow them to pay for the first phases of the care Lisa needs and focus on healing without the financial burden hanging over their heads.
