We rescued Rambo 8 months ago from a backyard where he has lived his entire 8 years of life. He did not know what indoor life was all about. Rambo is a 120 lb mastiff and fit right in with our family pretty quickly. He is a gentle giant and has gained the attention and love of many through TikTok videos highlighting his journey of transitioning to being an indoor dog.

On November 3rd he began showing signs of bloat and when taken to the ER, they confirmed that he had a twisted stomach also known as a GDV. GDV is when the stomach bloats (fills with gas) and then twists. It’s a painful, life-threatening condition that mostly affects large, deep chested dogs. This is an emergency and most dogs will pass away within 24 hours.

Rambo had emergency surgery to repair his stomach and is recovering now. It’s been a process with ups and downs with being hospitalized although his prognosis is looking great. We are now sitting at over 10,000 in medical bills from the animal hospital. This was unexpected and ironically happened at the same time we were signing him up for pet insurance. We did not end up signing him for insurance in time and will have to pay this expense entirely.
