Dear friends, family, co-workers and schoolmates of the special McGee Family,
We are writing to solicit your thoughts and prayers in a time of need. Youngest daughter Erin McGee, 6th grader at Valley Catholic Middle school, was recently diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma.
In recent weeks, Erin had been experiencing severe joint pain. On Thursday February 2nd Erin underwent a procedure to remove some suspected fatty tissue. A few days later, on Monday February 6th, the family received the news that the tissue was cancerous, and Erin was immediately admitted to Randal Children’s Hospital the next day. After a few more days of tests to identify cancer type and staging, Erin’s medical team activated the first phase of a 9-month treatment plan. This includes a four-week induction process involving chemotherapy 2X/week and steroids that help with managing the leg and body pain. This past Thursday while still in the hospital, Erin began her chemotherapy treatment, administered over the next four days. On Monday, after a week in the hospital, Erin was finally able to return home to familiar surroundings, and to rest in the comfort of Mom Sharla, Dad Scott and big sister Riley. Erin will be headed back to the hospital on Thursday for another chemotherapy treatment.
So many care deeply for this family, all of whom are anxious to know what they can do, how they can help. Close friends and family members will periodically post on a CaringBridge (Visit Here) site to keep all informed of updates and progress. In addition we have set up this Go Fund Me site through which we can make contributions toward all kinds of unanticipated financial needs the McGee’s will encounter on their journey in supporting Erin through this process – tutors to continue schooling, meal delivery services, games, crafts, music to help Erin pass the time, and much more. What they don’t spend on these needs over the next several months, they will donate to Children’s Cancer and Lymphoma organizations.
We will keep you informed in the coming weeks of other ways we can best channel our resources to best support the family’s needs.
Our hearts go out to the McGee family. Thank you in advance for your concern and for your cherished friendship. While we can’t change this diagnosis or assume their pain, there is much we can do. The power of your love, support, prayers and thoughts of healing will lift spirits and deliver hope. Erin’s doctors are doing their part, we will do the rest.
