Hello everyone, my name is Paulo Vitor Da Costa Figueiredo, I’m 27 years old and currently living in Canada. I’ve been recently diagnosed with a rare and serious heart condition called Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM) a genetic disease that affects the heart muscle and can lead to dangerous complications, including arrhythmias, fainting, and sudden cardiac events.
After several medical evaluations and hospital visits in Toronto, it became clear that the cost of continuing my treatment here would be extremely high, and out of reach financially. Despite the support of incredible doctors, my best chance for long-term care and recovery is to return to Brazil, where I can access specialized treatment with the support of experienced cardiologists including a specialist referred by one of the doctors here in Canada.
I’ll be flying back to Brazil on August 17, and while the care there is more accessible, I’ll still face many expenses: medications, medical follow-ups, possible procedures, housing, and transportation.
I’m truly humbled and grateful that my coworkers, friends, and community want to support me through this. If you are able to help any amount, no matter how small it will make a huge difference in this next phase of my journey. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this page.
I never imagined I’d be in this situation, but I have faith that with the help of those around me, I’ll get through it.
Thank you for reading, supporting, and caring.
