Help Me Help My Mom

Donation protected
This is my mommy. She is one of the strongest women I know. She is not only my mother, but she is a mother and father in one. She is my best friend.
Back in October, my mom started experiencing some back pains. Every month after that she kept seeing Doctor after Doctor, yet no one could figure out what was going on with my mom. She continued working through the pain because she needed money (have to pay bills, I don't blame her).
My mom then one day calls me while I'm at work. She tells me that when she was walking through the kitchen, she felt a flush of hotness run through her body and she just collapsed. Her legs just gave out on her. We take her to the ER but found nothing, and just sent her home since she was able to walk again. Then the very next day, same thing happened. Only difference is that this time she was able to catch herself and hold herself up. She just couldn't move nor take a step anywhere. We went to go see her, and she was just in a corner holding onto a chair to hold herself up. A couple days go by, my mom is still not walking. She had to use a plastic uriner to pee because she couldn't even walk to the bathroom.
We make her an appointment with the Chiropractor, because we are still thinking this is muscular since that's what everyone else seemed to think. She found so much strength and power in her to try and walk. Looking back now I'm really impressed.. you would be too if you saw her. My mom would sometimes drive herself (one whole hour) to the Chiropractor. Believe it or not, the massages were really helping her. She was able to start walking again, drive, and even started working a little again (she cleaned houses and babysat). This woman is invincible.
We then found out my mom had a fracture in her spine. We were also told that it looked as if there might be something else there, possibly a tumor. I couldn't believe what I had heard "why her? why my mother?" is all I could think. I knew I had to be strong for my mother and keep a positive mindset. She was going to get through this.
My mom's pain became unbearable and we ended up at NYU Langone Hospital. After running a couple tests, we get told that my mom has Cancer. They are getting a Special Team together to see what the next step will be, but she is being admitted. Hearing the word "Cancer" is not something I wish on anybody. My mom starts thinking the worse, she's already thinking she's lost this battle and the end has come for her. I had to find all the strength and courage inside of myself to assure her that she would get through this, and to not think negative.
My mom was in surgery for 13-14 hours. They had to do Reconstructive Surgery of her spine and remove the tumor, which completely shattered one vertebrae and half of another. She was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. This is a Cancer that starts in the blood cells. This Cancer started in my mom's white blood cells, specifically the ones produced in her bone marrow. This Cancer is 80% in her body. It's still in parts of her spine, and has gone to her ribs and pelvis.
If you were to have seen everything my mother did while going through these pains back from day 1, my mother shouldn't be walking. Even the Doctors at NYU were amazed.
As we get through this together I ask from everyone to please help us. Unfortunately we are in the Real World and bills have to be paid. We are still waiting to see if insurance will cover her surgery, and my Husband and I are helping to pay for her bills. Having to make multiple trips down to the city can become expensive as well. She's already lost her car because she wasn't going to be able to make payments on it. She doesn't want to lose her apartment as well. She loves having her privacy again (can you blame her?). She's finally back home, she's been home for 3 weeks now. The smiles of my son, seeing his grandmother back home is the best feeling. He would call her every single day, would cry for her, he wanted her back home. The Oncologist made a deal with my mom that she will grow to be old and get to enjoy her grandkids (so far she only has one, time will tell if she'll have more since I am her only child lol).
Every penny counts and your support is really greatly appreciated ❤
