My name is Letha, and I’ve been living with Type 1 diabetes for 47 years. After decades of managing highs, lows, and everything in between, I’m reaching out for a bit of help — something that could truly change my life: a Diabetic Alert Dog (DAD).

For those who may not know, a DAD is a specially trained service dog who can detect changes in blood sugar through scent — often before any medical device or monitor can alert me. These incredible dogs are trained to notice even the slightest shifts and warn their handler before things become dangerous.

Living with diabetes for nearly five decades means constant vigilance — day and night. I’ve had close calls, scary moments, and sleepless nights worrying about the “what ifs.” A Diabetic Alert Dog would bring me something I haven’t had in a long time: peace of mind.

This dog will be my partner, my guardian, and my best friend — watching over me when I’m asleep, when I’m driving, or even when I’m at work doing what I love most. They’ll give me the freedom to live confidently and safely, knowing I’m never truly alone in this fight.

The cost of training and placement for a DAD is around $12,000, and I’m hoping to raise $6,000 through this GoFundMe to cover half of that. Every dollar will go directly toward bringing this life-saving companion home — covering specialized training, certification, travel, and care.
