My name is Bree and I will be taking part in the Leeds half marathon on Sunday 10th May in support of one of my bestest friends Eva-Mae Kellett. Some mutual friends may already be aware, some may not so Eva has provided a detailed description below of why I will be fundraising for British Liver Trust.
Hello, my name is Eva. I was born with a rare condition called Congenital Liver Disease, though I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 17 after becoming seriously unwell. That diagnosis changed my life forever.
I am now 23 and currently in the process of being placed on the liver transplant list and looking for living donors to try shorten my wait. Every day I live with the reality of ongoing infections, regular hospital visits/stays, painful procedures, severe fatigue, and malnourishment caused by my liver’s inability to properly process nutrients. I rely on a feeding tube and face muscle wastage and internal complications as my condition continues to progress. All of these factors along with many more take a massive toll on my life & many others.
There is very limited awareness of Congenital Liver Disease and the devastating impact it can have. That is why my incredible best friend, Bree, is running this marathon — To raise awareness and show that liver disease can affect anyone, for many different reasons.
I will forever be greatful for Bree and the support she has given me throughout this whole journey and I cannot wait to watch her smash this marathon!
