Thorne is Getting Top Surgery!

Edits and updates:

-Thorne had surgery and is healing well! (Yay!)

-Meals and funds are still needed, though we are figuring out how much and will update as able. We know that a few hundred is needed imminently due to upcoming bills

-A big thank you to all who donated to this fundraiser via a former link! Apologies to everyone who had to have their donations returned and any confusion or inconvenience caused. We raised a few hundred dollars but unfortunately it had to all be returned to the donors due to some confusion/ miscommunication between me (Sygil) and the fine folks at gofundme. That is all sorted out now so we are having to raise money post surgery which is not ideal given the natural BUZZ that tends to happen right before! Hello caring humans of the interwebs!!

On July 9th, our beloved community member Thorne is having top surgery! Yay!! He had his first consultation on May 20th, 2024 and was informed about the updated surgery date on June 11th, 2024! Anyone who has navigated gender affirming surgeries in Portland knows how surprised Thorne was to receive the news of this date.

We are thrilled that he gets to receive this gender and life affirming surgery so soon; and at the same time- this gives us very little time to raise the necessary funds to allow him to recover for the 6+ weeks required.

$1400 covers:

-basic bills/utilities for most of July and August

- some pre - surgery preparation items etc: (for example: two IKEA style kallx brand bookshelves, one bedside small folding table, etc)

-basic medical supplies not covered by insurance such as extra bandages; and balms

-food, including some take out especially in the first couple days

Paying directly to Thorne is slightly preferred as gofundme takes a small portion of the donations; but donating here does have the advantage of more accurate public tracking of donations. That’s said, we will keep this fundraiser updated every few hundred dollars!

We understand that so many people are focusing fundraising efforts on supporting fundraisers for people literally escaping genocides- including but not limited to Gaza, Sudan, and Congo- as well as towards reparations in the form of supporting local BIPOC’s fundraisers and asks for financial safety and support. If, like me, you are unsure of exactly when you can commit but know you will provide a meal sometime; just sign up for a lunch at least a week out and DM us as the day approaches or when you have a better idea of what you can provide. Thorne also loves herbal remedies in tincture and other forms~ non euphemistically :P. Examples include: hawthorne, mimosa, damiana, infused wines and honey and oils, (magicky) candles, CBD products, etc.

Energy exchanges like reiki, vibrational/”sound” baths, etc and/or simple activities like puzzles, making art, etc are also good and optional.

Fun & magic mail are more than welcomed and appreciated! Check with Thorne about that too.

Video/ text message chats and/or in person local to PDX - Portland - checkins are good to be scheduled as a way to buffer and keep some structure somewhat to activities during daytimes and/or evenings ~ and ~ to help manage Thorne not being too lonely/alone since they currently live alone.

**Important Note about food diet/allergies**:

Thorne’s food + general allergies/high sensitivities: any type of products etc with Coconut, orange citrus, lavender, and bergamot.

Thorne is generally semi veggie /vegan /lacto-ovo /pescatarian - they don't eat any pork/meat products except for fish (salmon preferably unless otherwise).

**Dark chocolate among other things are some of his favorite treats**

Posie's bakery/cafe, the tin shed garden cafe, La Bonita (breakfast burritos ~ no salsa or spice), Harlow (smoothies - peanut butter chocolate and/or fruit variety and/or biscuits and veggie gravy, etc), Thai and/or sushi ~ all possible options re. food choices ~ if uncertain, then please checkin with Thorne on the day of for meals, snacks, etc.

Please and NO thank you to the following: potato salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, tuna type products and/or anything similar to that.
