For the Love of a Mother

My sister Michelle and her son Joshua will always share a special bond. They were both very protectIve of one another and what's taken place is a tragedy.

Last week in an effort to protect her precious son Joshua, my sister lost her life in the middle of the street in Makaha. Joshua is 19 years old, currently in jail and is being held responsible for the death of my sister Michelle. We are still awaiting the full investigation to find out how all of this transpired. We just need everyone to know that this is atypical behavior for Joshua, it’s out of his character to do such a thing. We know my nephew and We know his heart. Joshua loves my sister dearly and anyone who knows them can attest to their closeness. Which is why this is very confusing for everyone who truly knows Joshua.
 
What my family is currently experiencing is probably one of the most human experiences we all share as people, death and tragedy. Michelle Kalena McPeek was a daughter, sister, mother and friend and her memory will live on through ALL her children, including her loving son Joshua.
 
Our family stands behind Joshua during this extremely stressful time. We are asking for understanding and kokua from our community. As a Hawaiian I take great pride in belonging to a community that persevere through hardships while being supportive. 

We have been and are still needing to fly in more family members to be here for Michelle’s memorial, as well as help care for the children ages; 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 17. The children are currently all together and in a safe home with our Ohana while we figure out the logistics and legalities of what’s next for each of them. The children were suddenly uprooted from their home and will need a new furnished dwelling, clothing and school supplies and all major necessities for them soon.
