Please consider assisting my sister and her husband, Waynett Malheim-Klemetson and Scott Klemetson, of Fargo, North Dakota.
Scott has been diagnosed with an extremely rare autoimmune skin disorder, called pemphigus fallacious. His battle with the disorder began in December of 2014, when doctors began treating him for a simple rash. Scott presented with spots on his head and torso. However, this was just the beginning and the rash not only spread all over his body, but the skin began to open and weep. In February, after multiple trips to Emergency Rooms and clinics, he was hospitalized with high fevers and painful, open skin all over his body, and diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. Scott spent a week in the hospital with all of his skin sloughing off and the family feared that he might have to go to the burn unit. However, the skin appeared to be healing, so Scott was finally sent home.
Once home, Scott’s condition continued to deteriorate. He received news from the doctor that he had a severe case of pemphigus fallacious. Today, his entire body has been affected and Scott has open, sloughing and weeping skin, like a burn, covering his body. To make matters worse, the steroids are now causing Scott to have painful swelling in his feet and legs, so that it is difficult to walk. The family is scheduled to go to the Mayo Clinic on April 23rd to see if anything else can be done. Scott’s case may be terminal.
Scott is at home with his wife, Waynett, requiring 24 hour care and his chances of catching a secondary infection are very high. Both Waynett and Scott have been home, not working, for weeks. As Waynett stays close to Scott at this time, medical bills and everyday living costs are building.
