Leo: our son, angel, and little miracle. Leo was born healthy, full term on March12, 2018. Unfortunately, he had to be moved to the NICU to monitor his low sugar issues shortly after he was born. Abruptly, on just his fifth day with us, Leo caught a bacterial infection from the hospital that soon changed our lives forever. This led to a blood infection and meningitis. He was immediately transferred to Sick Kids Hospital, where they tried their best to stop the internal bleeding and save his life. His life was saved, but not without more complications. The internal bleeding travelled deep into our little boy's brain and at the age of two, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP). It was at this point - the point where our son was unable to sit, stand, walk, or talk. Through these trying times, we were amazed at his will to overcome the norms. Therefore, as a middle-class family, we decided to save all we can to get him as many private physiotherapy hours as needed. He proved all the doctors wrong and confirmed that he is, in fact, a miracle boy. He made every effort to beat his cerebral palsy through hard work and making the impossible possible. (Our story is recorded on our Instagram for those that would like to join our journey @ourmiracle_leo, links attached).
At this time, everything was going well and we were slowly able to see the light at the end of the tunnel... until the unexpected happened yet again. Three weeks ago, Leo was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. This diagnosis meant that his left hip is (subluxated) and it is growing incorrectly which requires immediate surgery. Due to his condition, the traditional therapy method used in Canada would be too invasive for our little boy. This therapy method would not only harm his body, but it would also reverse all the improvements that he worked tirelessly to achieve in physiotherapy.
This news worried and overwhelmed our family for a week until Leo had his lesson with his ABM therapist. She suggested a doctor in New Jersey, USA, that treats this condition using a different method. Dr. Nuzzo is a surgeon that discovered a new operation, S.L.O.B, which deals with a hip subluxation in a less invasive way. This S.L.O.B surgery is one of a kind and is very promising for Leo. It has the potential to improve Leo’s health and save him from being in a wheelchair for the rest of his life!
This takes us to our present situation: as Leo's parents, we know that the S.L.O.B surgery performed by Dr. Nuzzo is the most appropriate option for our miracle boy. Unfortunately, we are not able to financially afford the surgery $120k, excluding costs for travel, hospital stays, and the post-surgery private intensive therapy expenses that will last up to a minimum of 6 months after surgery alone.
With that being said, we have put all our faith in God’s hands to supply us with the strength to overcome this turbulent time. The hope of our little angel's life is in YOUR hands. By donating, Leo can get this necessary surgery that gives him the chance of having the life that every child deserves! If it is on your heart and you are able, please help our family by donating to Leo's journey to recovery. Do not feel pressured if you are unable to donate, but we do kindly ask you to keep us in your prayers.
To help get the word out, please share this Go Fund Me on your Facebook and Instagram and get your friends and family to do the same! Leo and my family would be forever grateful!
God bless you and thank you for your love and care as my family gets through this time of uncertainty.
