About Maria
Born and raised in the small mining town of Globe-Miami, AZ and currently residing in Tempe, AZ, Maria Jagles is full of life and love. She enjoys the arts, soul-moving music, a good laugh, and being around family and friends. In fact, she has dedicated her life to helping enrich the lives of marginalized communities through empowerment and advocacy. She is engaged to her loving fiancé, L.T., and recently had a beautiful baby boy.
Her Story
In late December, Maria thought she was having a miscarriage and went to the hospital around 2 a.m. Doctors told her the placenta detached from the uterus and was causing the bleeding. Fortunately, their baby boy is doing well and getting stronger by the day. He’s being called feisty by the nurses in NICU! He'll remain there until his original due date in March.
Shortly after giving birth, Maria had vision changes that had her seeing people’s faces distorted and inanimate objects moving. A CT scan showed what doctors thought to initially be a stroke - there was a mass in her brain affecting Maria's vision. A full-body MRI found a second larger mass on her kidney. CT scans found and confirmed low oxygen in Maria's brain along with a 1 inch brain mass (tumor) on the right side of herbrain and a 13cm x 16cm mass on her kidney. Due to multiple errors by doctors and the hospital she was staying at, the first biopsy was done on New Year's Eve, but was found to be inconclusive for weeks. She recently had another biopsy which confirmed Renal Cell Carcinoma/Kidney Cancer.
Maria is scheduled to have the mass removed from her brain first followed by her kidney in the coming weeks.
The Next Step
As you can imagine, with a newborn son in the NICU and all of Maria's hospital stays, tests and surgeries, the medical bills are piling up. Maria has felt so loved and so supported by her fiancé , family, friends and so, so many others, that she feels comfort, hope, and peace.
We want to ease as much of the burden for Maria, LT and their child so they can all be healthy when their son comes home from the NICU in March! A gift of any amount is exceedingly appreciated during this difficult time.
