Hello family and friends.
Our family has decided to make this GoFundMe for Raquel’s Medical expenses since we have started receiving bills from the hospitals.
Raquel contracted COVID-19which turned into severe pneumonia. She was airlifted from Othello to Wenatchee on August 8th then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on August 14th. She is currently having severe respiratory failure. She has been on a ventilator since Aug. 8 and is now connected to a very powerful machine called ECMO. This machine is oxygenating her blood and removing carbon dioxide for her. Due to the severe pneumonia, one of her lungs developed a hole and has since had a tube placed directly into her chest/lung to suction out any excess air her lungs aren’t able to remove. Raquel has also developed a bacteria blood infection, which has been a huge set back. As of today (8/31/2021) she is 100% reliant on both machines and considered to be in very critical condition. We will continue to update this page as we receive more information.
Raquel is a 35-year-old dedicated single mother. If you know her, you’ll know that she is a special needs momma and a strong advocate. She has two sons. Jayden (14) is a Shaken Baby Syndrome Survivor. He has Cortical Vision Impairment, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, and severe communication deficits. He relies on Raquel to be spoon fed, toileted, and all other basic living skills. She has helped Jayden overcome many obstacles of his own. Life with Jayden has many challenges- challenges that some days would bring my sister to tears of frustration.. but she has never given up on him. She has always been the sole provider for her boys and has always put them before herself. Jayden has weekly therapies, receives monthly chiropractic care, and sees doctors at Seattle Children’s hospital yearly, as well as going to school full-time here in Othello.
Raquel's other son, Maddox (11) is already a pretty quiet boy, but since his mom has been hospitalized he has been more quiet. Maddox is a very smart kid and knows exactly how severe his mother is. Since he found out she is in Harborview he has felt hope. Harborview Medical Center was the same hospital where Jayden was taken when he was injured. So in Maddox's words “ She’ll be home soon- that hospital saved my brother." We have been able to Zoom with Raquel once a night, which has seemed to help him out a little more.
Raquel is so loved. While she has been gone, our whole family has been here for the boys. We have successfully got them in school and have continued with Jayden's appointments. We just want Raquel to come back home. Any donations gathered here will be going towards all her medical expenses. Thank You!
