Susan Pilewski, 49 year old Long Island poet, Parkinson’s thriver and newly minted quadriplegic, needs help moving home. Since a simple fall in 2017 changed everything, Susan has worked hard to gain strength and now, with caregivers provided by the Suffolk Independent Living Organization (SILO), Susan has a release date of May 1 to go back to the home she used to share with her disabled brother.
With her only income a month disability check, and with Medicare pretty much tapped out, we’re launching this campaign to fund three things for Susan: 1) a special chair that allows her to shower, 2) a moving company to get her stuff out of storage and set up in her room, and 3) labor and supplies to swap her room’s flooring from carpet to a more wheel-friendly material. $3,000 is enough to make all this happen before May 1st.
Susan revels in small pleasures like a good cup of coffee, thrift store shopping, and finding the ultimate spaghetti squash. Her goals are simple: to continue her lifelong love of writing and publishing, and to be near her extended family. With your donation, big or small, we can get Susan home!
