Detroit Chess Teams Go to Nationals
Donation protected
Sponsored by the Northwestern High School Alumni Association
I have had the privilege of coaching and mentoring chess students in Detroit Schools for over 20 years. Many of my teams earned the opportunity to represent the school district in the annual United States Chess Federation National Championships in cities throughout the country. The children discovered that they could successfully compete with students from all over America. Over the years, Detroit teams have earned numerous trophies, medals and championships. Seeing the passion, pride, sense of accomplishment and smiles of the children has been gratifying for me. For many of them, this life impacting experience was their first trip out of the neighborhood.
Over the past few years, budgetary cutbacks within the district, have led to a sharp reduction of resources for the chess program. But the kids didn't give up! My Detroit Collegiate Prep High@ Northwestern team placed among the top three teams in the Metro Scholastic Chess League of Detroit this year.
Since thebeginning of the year our team has been raising funds to go to the Super Nationals in Nashville, TN in May. However, they are still $2000 short of covering the cost of the the trip. Considering all of the time and hard work the students have expended, it would be a tragedy if they are unable to attend. Please help the students achieve an experience of a lifetime.
Seeing the plight of our students, the Northwestern High School Alumni Association is sponsoring this Go Fund Me campaign. All funds will be received by the Alumni Associations and used to send the Detroit students to the Super Nationals. The Northwestern High School Alumni Association is a 501(C)3 organization and all donations are tax deductable. Thank you for your support.
