Starting From Scratch
I know the Moglen/Goldsmith family would not be comfortable posting a GoFundMe campaign for their daughter, Alyssa, but several people have asked
how they can help. Alyssa lost everything in a home fire in the middle of the night.I will copy and paste from her mother’s Facebook page:
“I got a text this morning at 4 am; my daughter said “mom my house burned down. I’m so sad and scared. I lost everything.”. And she did. She heard someone outside shout fire and she ran around the house yelling for her roommates to get out. She has only the clothes on her back..didn’t even grab shoes or her glasses...just herself with her roommates following behind ( one actually had to exit from a window because of the flames). In an instant, life can change. All the things we have that help identify us can burn to the ground replaced by ash...but my daughter is alive and she’s very lucky to have escaped the fire. She’s an artist and has lost a huge amount of her work and many of her possessions that helped define her are gone...but she’s not. She’s here and I’m so grateful to have her alive. She will be traumatized and at a loss for a long time and will soon have to start the arduous task of replacing things..tomorrow I’ll get some contacts for her so she can see...I’ve had friends helping her out all day and I’m reminded again that wealth has nothing to do with money in the bank and everything to do with the health and well being of the people you love...”
Any little bit would mean the world to a young woman who must feel that her life was erased last night. She needs supplies for her livelihood as well as a basic wardrobe, immediately. Then the process of acquiring furnishings to rebuild and feather a new nest.
It takes a village and I know just the one....thank you to Barb & Betty’s village!! (I almost wrote village people #YMCA ;)
