Hey Loves,
I always thought I would save doing one of these for some musical expense, which would be ideal, but this has taken precedence.
For those of you who don’t know me or are meeting me through this:
I’m Tyler Holmes (They/Them)
I am a Black, Queer, Non-Binary person. I am an Artist, Musician, Educator living in Oakland, California.
As an Educator and an Artist I am currently unemployed and not receiving Unemployment funds.
Riding out the last month or so of my insurance I am trying to get all the dental work that I desperately need and have needed for years done before
I have absolutely no monetary help. My mouth hurts.
Teeth stuff is extreme so don’t read this part if you’re sensitive to that kind of thing:
I just had 5 cavities filled, I have to fill 3 more, I need 2 root canals and a deep cleaning.
I’m going to set the goal a little higher because I also need a dental implant.
If you’ve seen me smile, I usually try to hide it, I’m missing a tooth.
I had a baby tooth that never fell out because the adult tooth is oddly imbedded in the roof of my mouth.
When they removed the baby tooth years ago I was making minimum wage so I got the cheapest tooth the dentist would give me and it fell out immediately.
I paid to have it put back in place three times all by different dentists and it always fell out.
After a year or more of trying dental glue, etc… I just decided to go without the tooth.
It is not the best for the neighboring teeth to have that tooth missing.
But it is not as important as the other issues, so, if I don’t make my goal that is the thing that will have to wait.
At my last appointment they informed me the remainder of my insurance premium for the year is only 200$
My next appointment is for the day before Thanksgiving and that installment of these procedures is supposed to cost 2,000$ plus the insurance premium.
Anything helps really, if you can share this widely and often or to people you know got bank and want to support a Queer Black Teacher having legit oral care for the first time since sophomore year of High school that would mean the world to me.
