Since last year I have lost a total of 110 lbs! More than just the weight loss I have found that I really enjoy exercising and taking care of myself. As part of my health journey I am running my first 5K and am excited to prove to myself that I can now run 3 miles and finish a race! I know many runners raise money for a cause, and I thought what better fundraiser then the Kindergarten students in my own classroom!
As teachers we often give so much of ourselves and give of our own resources. Every year I buy numerous supplies and activities for my classroom. Working at a Title 1 school in the Bronx we do not receive a lot of funding and get very limited supplies each year for out students. Normally we send home a list of supplies for parents to purchase for their children. This year even more so in the past, the pandemic has caused many people to lose their jobs and they are unable to afford these expensive supplies. Many students come to school with nothing and as teachers we are left to fill in the gaps. I am asking for support this year to give my students the best Kindergarten year back at school in person!
Your contributions would go towards purchasing basic supplies such as folders, crayons, markers, pencils, notebooks for my students to use on a daily basis. We also have many fun class parties and celebrations where I often buy snacks, treats, decorations and prizes throughout the year. A lot of my students do not get to have big parties or celebrations at home so providing this experience in the classroom is special and unique for their Kindergarten experience. Some students have been home for a year or more while remote learning and need to work on social skills and building relationships with peers. I would love to purchase some hands on activities for them to work on with partners. My Kindergarten students would love to play and learn with new art supplies, science supplies, math and literacy centers, STEAM activities and projects.
The trauma that our students have experienced during the pandemic cannot be ignored. As I welcome all my students back to school I want to show them how much school has to offer and give them the best Kindergarten experience! Please help me help them!
