On March 13th, Sam was in a terrible accident.  While wearing his seat belt he and the seat were ejected from the vehicle. Sam sustained many acute injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures. As of 3/15, he is still in critical condition, but stable. His labs are good, urine output is good and remarkably looks so much better from the outside than reality.   The doctors are hopeful and are impressed that he has not worsened.  Sam is still very much in the woods and really it's just a waiting game.  His mom, Laura traveled from Kansas City to Austin to be by his side. She writes:  Urine in the foley excites me, high sodium levels bring me joy and him trying to bite the tube during suctioning makes me smile.  Although these are all so little things and I know may be insignificant in the big picture, today they are worth celebrating.  I know his recovery is going to be extremely slow and there are so many hurdles ahead but I'm just trying to keep it all together and be here for him. I CANNOT express enough how much it means to me to receive all your messages.  The outpouring of love and prayers for someone that  most of you don't even know shows me what amazing people I'm blessed to work with and be a part of.   I'm touched how much everyone wants to help but the only thing to do right now is pray.  I'm not sure when I'll be back.  Please feel free to reach out if you'd like.  No one is a bother, in fact it's welcomed.
