Lets Shield Chicago!
Donation protected
Update!! -- $1335 were raised from this campaign and a $150 donation from Midwestern University + Outside Donors has allowed us to make 1000+ Masks. Because materials must be purchased in bulk to reduce the cost of these masks for $1/ mask, the amount left over will be donated to organizations such as IMAN Chicago who create and deliver care packages of fresh foods, non-perishables, and supplies to senior centers and families in need. Thank you!
Fundraiser in collaboration with Midwestern University's: MePA.
We’re all familiar with the growing crisis regarding lack of PPE around the world and especially in the Chicagoland area. Healthcare workers are having to choose between helping patients or protecting themselves. Seeing this increased need, I looked into what can be done on a smaller scale - something that I and other individuals like me can contribute to.
After researching and consulting with various professionals, we’ve come to the conclusion that it would be most helpful to make plastic face shields for our frontline healthcare workers. These shields protect the N95 face masks, making them last longer, as well as providing another essential layer of protection.
At this moment, more than ever, our healthcare heroes in the city are in desperate need of help - OUR help.
Right now, corporations are charging the healthcare industry $2-3/shield, making it extremely costly to provide basic protection for our frontline healthcare workers.
Making these masks is a simple process, requiring only an elastic band, adhesive backed foam, and a plastic sheet. Vendors for these materials have already been sourced and are willing to give their supplies at cost price.
We also have a team of volunteers who are willing to provide the labor needed for the assembly of these masks.
All we need now is to purchase the materials, which cost $1000 to make 1000 shields.
That is only $1 per shield. Just $1 could save multiple lives from this virus.
This is where we need your help. Please consider donating and sharing this so that we can offer support to those that are risking their lives everyday to protect us.
Help shield our healthcare workers who are our only shield against this pandemic.
