In a nutshell, goal date of Friday, Sept 27th, we can do this!!!
Poway, CA- My 80yo father suffered a stem stroke early this February. My parents are Navy veterans; my dad, Joseph, has retirement and VA benefits, my mother, Mary, has a little retirement and VA when she needs her own medical coverage.
He's about to be reassessed and may be classified as maximum assistance, 24hr care. Until he gets strong enough to go home, they found and really like a certain assisted living for them to stay so my mom doesn't have to drive 16 miles total back and forth everyday and stay for hours to make sure he eats and isn't alone. She, herself, has been getting some dizzy spells the last few years and just the constant driving is a lot for anyone.
To stay with my dad, my mom must pay out-of-pocket $600 /mo as the 2nd person living there. With your combined donations of $4,500, this will cover 6 months and a few non-medical van rides for him which they must pay up to $200 or more per trip leaving from any facility. I have 3 adult family members who live nearby but cannot support this financially and I am currently deployed, Navy, in Qatar until March.
My parents are from a generation where one would never ask for this kind of help, but it's almost 2020 and, with trusted platforms like GoFundMe, without a doubt, although I'm bummed, I am asking.
