Memorial Day 2022 Dad's pacemaker went off 4 times and threw him to the ground. EMS rushed him to Trident Medical Center. After more than 8 hours of minimal healthcare, we agreed to take him home and follow up immediately with his doctors.
June 16, Dad ran an errand, for the first time since Memorial Day (except for doctors appts). After putting groceries into his truck, he started to put the cover down on the bed and felt weird. His pacemaker went off, but he was holding on to a shopping cart. Dad was shocked 3 more times. The force (compared to being kicked in then chest by horse) of the 2nd shock threw him down onto the parking lot. Temperatures hitting close to 100° made the asphalt even hotter.
Thursday June 16, Dad suffered 4 shocks to the heart, 1st degree burns from the asphalt, and a broken hip. We are extremely thankful for our friend that was with Dad, the customers that got blankets from their cars to lay under him, and the gentleman that got the umbrella and sat with him. EMS took Dad to Roper downtown. Healthcare workers took great care of Dad. Saturday June 18 Dad had hip surgery. The top of his femur had broken off and was replaced. Doctors were hesitant because of Dad's heart condition, but we all decided the outcome was in God's hands. Surgery was successful! Dad was in ICU for a few hours then sent to the Cardiac Ward. That lasted an hour. Back to ICU.
Back to Roper ICU until Tuesday June 21. Doctors agree MUSC could better help Dad's needs. Dad was moved to MUSC. Thursday June 23, doctors agreed to do the ablation. Surgery was a success, despite Dad having to be resuscitated. God said he wasn't ready for Dad. Due to Dad's continued erratic heart beats and blood pressure fluctuations, he has received a temporary heart pump and nerve block to slow the number of heartbeats per minute.
Sunday, June 26, 3 of Clergy from Knightsville Baptist Church stopped to see Mom and Dad. They all prayed together. Dad said he saw 3 Angels. Then the Angels flew away. Again, it was not Dad's time. Dad has the will and determination to beat all the odds.
Still in ICU, June 28, the heart pump was removed. Thank God, Dad is positive and faithful! June 29, Physical Therapy started. Dad felt good. Numbers look good. Doctors have discontinued the nerve blocker.
Here we are, waiting, watching. We are staying positive, praying a lot. Dad will have at least another week of Rebab for the hip, after he leaves ICU and heads to the Cardiac Ward to stabilize his heart.
We are grateful for the care Dad has been given since this unfortunate journey began. We cannot thank the doctors, nurses, and all of the healthcare professionals that have been so dedicated to help our Dad! Your upbeat and caring attitudes have proven there is good in the world. Positive attitude has the ability to heal also.
We are a humble family. We are blessed to have so many people that care for our parents. Dad will no longer be able to do the things he usually does to make a little money for the household. Mom has been out of work and will continue to be for bit longer. Gas and parking for the daily trips to the hospital are taking their toll. Not to mention the medical bills for the 14 days this far. Mom and Dad do not know we are setting up this GoFundMe account. We are helping as much as we can, but most of the kids are from AL, GA and TN. Any donations are appreciated. Rae Anne has cash app and Venmo if you would like to donate there instead of on here, just text her [phone redacted].
