As many of you know, Dad spent a week in the hospital. For those who did not hear, here is Dad's story.
Dad (Bill Dombkowski) is a very active older man. He loves to ride his bike and take Skye for walks. He is an HVAC guy who does a bunch of heavy lifting and physical labor.
Dad went to the urgent care on December 28th, and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. They took an x-ray that showed what looked like pneumonia so he was put on antibiotics. He finished the antibiotics, and he still was not feeling well. He waited a bit to see if he would improve, but unfortunately he was not. He was only getting worse. He was very short of breath, and it was very difficult for him to talk and be understood. On January 17th, he went back to the urgent care where they took more x-rays of his lungs. They put him on another antibiotic. He went back the next day. His blood oxygen levels were scary low and his pulse was extremely high. The doctors at the urgent care were concerned for his heart. They said it was enlarged and then they told him he needed to go to the ER right away. That night, Dad and I went into the ER. Soon after we arrived, we went back for the start of many tests. The ER doctor ruled out pneumonia and told us the news that Dad is full of blood clots in his lungs and his leg.
From the ER dad was admitted to Silver Cross for about a week. He was on bed rest for multiple days as they tried to uncover the reason for his blood clots, which we still have no idea as to why he had them in the first place. He was instantly hooked up to oxygen and having different tests and scans done. While in the hospital he developed a rash as a result from the antibiotics they were still giving him to treat if he had pneumonia. Pneumonia and the clots he has look very similar on the x-rays. They started giving him medicine for the rash, and took him off of those antibiotics. They had to start different ones. He was getting shots twice a day to his stomach to help break up the clots, and he was still taking his blood thinners orally too. He was discharged on January 24th. He was sent home with his blood thinners, oxygen, and the last of his antibiotics.
He is still on blood thinners and we go to the doctor regularly. Right now, the doctors are in the process of figuring out the dosage of his meds. He is still on oxygen in the house and has portable tanks for when he leaves.
Dad has not worked since before Christmas, and has a 15 year old high school daughter that he has custody of. He is not able to go back to work yet, as he is still working on being able to breathe on his own without the oxygen. His church has been helping him and supplying meals, which as a family, we are very grateful that he has his church family.
My dad has been my rock and supporter since I was born, without Dad I don't know where I'd be. He has been a strong man my whole life that has always supported his family, especially his children. I feel that it is now my turn to help Dad as much as I can. I recently picked up a second job waitressing at Buffalo Wild Wings. I am hoping that the money I make can help him with bills and necessary needs until he can get back on his feet. My brother and his family are also helping out dad with whatever bills that they can help with, but we are having troubles keeping up with them. Please consider helping our family with any amount of monetary donation. We would be so extremely grateful for any donations received.
