As many of you know I have started on a new adventure teaching middle school in the Englewood neighborhood on the Southside of Chicago.
These kids are working like crazy to beat the odds and get to college. I am passionate about giving kids a high quality education, and I believe that they also deserve opportunities in sports and arts.
Our school has never had an art or music program, so a couple of my co-workers and I have decided to put on the first annual Spring Musical. This year we are performing Disney's High School Musical!
The tough part: our school literally has none of the materials we need to put on a full production. We were given a grant to buy the rights to the musical (thank the Lord!), but as you know it's going to cost a ton of money to buy/make the sets, costumes, and props.
I remember of all the incredible lessons I learned about accountability, teamwork, taking and implementing feedback, multitasking, and the passion I found in sports and music through the activites I was involved in.
I got to see some of my girls shine on the school dance team this fall, and now we are involving more people by doing the musical!
If you can donate money, every cent will go directly to needs for the show! My teammates and I are volunteering our time completely to work with these 40+ kids and their families, on top of our normal 7:30-4:30 work day.
If you donate, I promise you will get tons of cute photos, updates, and thank you's from kids who really and truly appreciate new experiences.
