My name is Mike McDonald and Im raising money to try and make it as easy as possible financially on Kai and her family during this very difficult time. Kai’s mother amber is a single mother and has been out of work since September 25th and it is unknown when she will be able to return to work at this time. Any donation will help take some of the burden off amber and let her focus on her daughter and the long road ahead!

16 year old Karina “Kai” Atkins of Clinton Illinois was feeling very ill on September 25th. Her mother brought her to the hospital that evening. After running some tests and a CT scan it was determined that there was a 12x12x17cm tumor on Kai’s ovary. Kai was transferred to children’s hospital in Springfield on Monday afternoon to determine a plan of action. While in Springfield it was determined that the tumor was stage 4 serous carcinoma. It’s the most common ovarian cancer, but extremely rare for her age. Springfield children’s hospital decided with such a rarity they wanted to transfer Kai down to branes hospital in St. Louis which they then did that Friday to make a plan. Kai was released from the hospital the next night with doctors determining the next step.

Since then Kai has been in and out of the hospital. Tomorrow Friday October 6th Kai will go for surgery to try and remove the tumor at Barnes hospital in St. Louis.
