HELP CODY GET TO COLLEGE TO BECOME A FARRIER!
My name is Cody Cumming and I am originally from California. I have a dream to go to college to become a farrier. That is, a person who makes and fits shoes for horses. I am now working at the Therapeutic and Recreational Riding Center, first as support staff and now as Barn Manager. I have absorbed a wealth of information on horses, horse care, and watching the Center’s farrier, travelling with him as he made his rounds taking care of his horse customers. Horses need the same kind of special care so that they can help people do a variety of tasks. I became fascinated with this profession. I did some research and found a school that has a farrier program in Missouri called Heartland Horseshoeing School. I cannot afford the tuition to attend the school because my job is only part-time, so I am asking friends and family to help me get there. My parents do not have the financial means to fund my tuition. I tried applying for a FASFA grant—an application for student federal financial aid but my chosen school does not qualify for this type of funding. I do not have any reserve savings because I have to pay my rent and other living expenses. I feel that I would be a natural as a farrier. I am strong, I love horses, I have experience dealing with people, especially people who have disabilities and who need riding as therapy (the primary function of TRRC). I am very empathetic and if I can make someone’s ride better, I come up with innovative and new ways to help the riders whether that means suggesting a better horse or a better saddle. I am also excited about becoming a farrier because it will enable me to have my own business doing this kind of work. It takes a special person to work with large animals. I feel that I get along well with horses and understand their natures. Can you help me? I am trying to raise $7000.00 so that I will be able to have a profession that will allow me to become self-sufficient. Any amount will be appreciated.
