Meet our beloved Misty! Misty is a mom, grandmother, daughter, and friend, and a bright light to all who have been lucky enough to know her. She was an active and healthy woman when she began her battle a few years ago. When slow mild weakness turned into an inability to walk or care for herself, Misty and her family searched endlessly for an answer — they were met with a devastating diagnosis that has altered their lives in every way.
Misty has been diagnosed with an incredibly rare autoimmune disorder called Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy. A condition that mimics many of the symptoms seen in ALS, only approximately 1-10 people in 100,000 in the U.S. are diagnosed with CIDP annually. While roughly 40% of those diagnosed achieve remission, Misty is still at the beginning of her journey of remission.
At this time, Misty is suffering from complete quadriplegia and is unable to speak — despite this, her sensation and cognition are completely intact. Misty is able to communicate with her eyes via communication boards, and feels everything. She is still capable of regaining these vital functions, and even returning to her old normal — she is still and will continue to fight towards these goals.
Misty’s primary caregivers have been her amazing parents Rodger & Wanda, mother in law Gail, and daughter Taylor - all had no prior medical experience up until caring for Misty. They manage her medications, trach and vent care, appointments, and provide her all of her medications, nutrition, and basic needs. They’ve managed all of her care without any outside help besides other family members pitching in when able. When her parents were praised for the amazing things they’re doing for their daughter, they’ve said “We never thought what we were doing was anything special. She’s our daughter and our world, it’s what you do.”
Misty and her loving family keep smiles on their faces despite it all, and have continued to lean on their faith, prayers, and each other. They are the strongest and most deserving people I have met.
Please consider donating to Misty’s funds - any and everything will help and go directly towards her care. Please share this page to help Misty’s story reach all that are able to contribute. And finally, please keep Misty and her family in your prayers. We cannot thank you enough for any bit you are able to contribute.
