Helping Cody
Donation protected
On May 15th life changed on the blink of an eye. Cody was injured when the boom of the sprayer he was loading came into contact with a high voltage power line which caused Cody to take approximately 7400 volts. Slowly though Cody Conrady and I are settling into a new definition of normal. The staff in the burn unit at Memorial Hospital have been second to none when it comes to treating not only Cody's numerous injuries but also for making sure that we both have the resources around us to get Cody back to as close to pre-injury as possible. Currently, Cody is dealing with the amputation of his left arm below the elbow and there are plans for the amputation of his right leg below the knee and 2 toes on his left foot. He does have numerous other injuries but to be quite blunt he probably shouldn't even be alive at all. We certainly aren't out of the woods and the risk for complications is still very high but Cody had a good day and night yesterday so we've decided to give everyone more info. We've been looking for a meaning for this and last night a friend of Cody's provided it. If we can prevent other farm workers either from being severely injured like Cody or even killed by telling his story, maybe just maybe there is a silver lining. We got very lucky on an unlucky day and I'm currently savoring every second I get to spend with him. We are overwhelmed by the amount of folks who have contacted us and we thank each and every one of you. We'd ask that you do one thing today though, call the people that matter most to you and tell them you love them because life can change in the blink of an eye.
