My name is Val. I am 74 years old and currently reside in Atlanta Georgia. I am in a financial bind after being put on disability in 2006 because of stress-related hypertension and a thoracic aortic aneurysm originally diagnosed in 2003. I lived with the aneurysm for over 16 years and survived a successful open heart surgery for repair in May 2019.

Over the past 5 months, I have suffered from fatigue, brain fog, irritated throat, shortness of breath and headaches as a result of gas leaks and mold exposure in my unit confirmed by outside testing. I am constantly inhaling a substance that’s circulating in the air of my unit. Under a doctor’s care, he has recommended that I relocate to a new living space with better air quality due to the adverse effects on my health (original doctor’s letter available upon request).

The waiting list for senior developments in Atlanta Georgia is two to three years. Fortunately, I was able to find a senior apartment in Virginia so that I can stabilize myself permanently, where relatives are waiting to welcome me.

Please understand that I’ve taken care of myself since age 16, so asking for financial assistance now at age 74 is very difficult for me. I am fortunate enough to have government assistance with my rent; however, they do not provide funds for rental deposits or moving expenses. I must vacate my current residence by January 26, 2023.

With deep humility, I am asking for financial assistance with moving expenses of $6500 to schedule the following:

• Renting PODS

• Hiring a company to help with packing and loading the PODS

• Transporting, storing and dropping off the PODS

• Amtrak ticket to Virginia

• Trucking company to transport my 1996 Toyota vehicle

• Hire a company to unload my belongings from the PODS into my new apartment.
