My name is Heather Williams and I’ve spent my life dedicated to the well-being of others. I suddenly am learning to focus on the well-being of myself due to being diagnosed with Stage 3 Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer during the week of Thanksgiving on November 22nd, 2021. My life changed dramatically upon receiving this news.

I am the loving mother of four children, soon to be five as I am in the process of adopting my kids’ brother, my bonus son, in an effort to save him from a system that would not allow him to succeed. It has been my passion to foster children and give them loving homes since 2016. While I cannot use specifics for their safety, these children were given to me because of my certification as a specialized trauma foster parent. Prior to my diagnosis, I was also volunteering with the Infinite Mission as a wound care nurse once a month.

With that being said, this life threatening diagnosis has prevented me from doing what I love as a volunteer and drastically affected my work life. I went from working two jobs to support my family to barely working part time. I am eternally grateful for the moral support I have received thus far, but as it turns out, recovering comes with a large financial burden.

My first surgery was to place a port on December 21st, 2021, followed by my introduction to chemotherapy on December 22nd, 2021. My double mastectomy with reconstruction is scheduled for May 17th, 2022. This will be followed by more intense radiation, chemotherapy and other active treatments, hopefully ending sometime in December of 2022. During these various treatments and therapies, I will have to significantly reduce my workload again and will only be able to maintain working 5-10 hours a week, and will be entirely out of work for two to three months depending on how my body handles everything post-surgery.

So far in this short time, I have accumulated over $6,000 in medical bills that continue to climb while everyday household finances become a burden. I have come to a point in which it humbles me to ask for help, however I can use any support you are able to offer to my family and I.

We hope to raise enough to cover my ongoing medical expenses and assist with the unexpected missing income. Even the smallest donations will go a long way. I look forward to contributing to the community again once I recover, and am hopeful that this journey was brought upon me because the universe knew I could handle it.
