Peace Project in Port-au-Prince!

Hello friends and family!
Valcourt, Kayla, and Parul here! We are 3 friends who met at Lewis & Clark College, and a year ago we began working on a project to make a difference in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Growing up in Haiti, Valcourt saw how his country struggled with poverty, lack of opportunity, and social divisions. As a public school student until 10th grade, he witnessed how the socioeconomic divide between young people from public and private schools created tensions in the community.
We are raising money to bring computers, an informed syllabus, and expertise to create a self-sustaining computer literacy summer program. We will address the practical need for computer skills with a curriculum that will encourage exploration, group dialogue, and working together. We are collaborating with teachers at Le Village des Petits Princes school to lead classes of young Haitian public school students, private schoolers, and youth not attending formal school.
We believe that computer literacy allows young people to share their ideas with the rest of the world, gain exposure to different perspectives, and contribute valuable skills to their community.
We are incredibly grateful to have received a grant from the Davis Foundation 100 Projects for Peace National Committee. Yet this funding only covers 65% of our project’s budget expenses. That’s where you come in! We need your support of $3,000 to cover a significant portion of our materials and shipping costs needed to make this a well-equipped computer center. We appreciate contributions of any amount, even $5 will really help!
