Last year I started a campaign to help us get Eric and Holly to a surf camp called Surfers Healing. Surfers Healing is a surf camp exclusively for kids with autism and their families. On the day of the camp, Folly Beach South Carolina is closed to the public and a group of the best surfers in the world take our special kids out for the ride of their lives and That One Perfect Day! And they do this every year for no charge!! Last year our family was humbled and blown away when all of our friends and family went above and beyond to send us to this amazing camp to see what it could do to help our kids. The change in Eric was nothing short of miraculous!! The trip changed him in ways I never dreamed possible and the impact lasted even after we came home.  On the trip, he flew for the first time (and did GREAT), he tried new food (and LIKED it), he swam in the ocean and surfed (we couldn't keep him out of the water!!), and after we came home the firsts just kept on coming!! He rode a bike (trike) for the first time, he sat in church very happily and quietly, he came in to school earlier than normal one day and instead of wandering around until his class came to the cafeteria, he navigated the halls to his classroom (COMPLETELY unassisted!) and found his teacher, and he even touched and led a horse (this is a VERY big deal because he has major sensory issues with fur)!! The point of all of this is that it started AFTER he went to Surfers Healing. It would be so awesome to get to see what kind of new things he might try if he were to get to go again! Eric is starting High School this year and it would be so wonderful if he could start it with the confidence he gained at Surfers Healing last year!! This transition can be very difficult and scary and anything that can help build confidence and courage is so valuable.  Surfers Healing is free of charge to the families but the thing we are asking for help with is the travel expenses (airfare, hotel, meals). The camp date for 2016 is August 25 and this year any donations made can also be tax deductible if made to Surfers Healing Folly Beach and specified for a travel scholarship for our family. I can provide the tax id # and info needed to get the tax deduction and any and all help is GREATLY appreciated!! No donation is too small and every penny counts!! Thank you all and SURF'S UP!!!
